Witch's Hat Cookie: How to...

Updated: Dec 22, 2018

I love Halloween. I am all about the costumes, sweets and scares.

As is tradition in my house, I host a night where my friends and I play a scary video game. We turn out all the lights and settle in to be scared as someone plays! This year we played Layers of Fear, a great scary game.

So with friends coming over I wanted to make a Halloween treat. I combined two classic desserts, cookies and rice crispy treats, to make a witches hat. Here is how I did it.

Supplies

Cookie Pizza

  • 12 tbsp butter

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup white sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 egg yolk

  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 1/4 cup flour

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 1/4 cup brown m&ms

Rice Crispy Treats

  • 1 box Coco-Krispies

  • 10 oz marshmallows

  • 3 tbsp butter

  • rest of the 12 oz bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips

Cookie pizza. The base of the witch's hat.

Step 1:

Make the chocolate chip cookie pizza. I am not reinventing the wheel here. I followed a recipe from

https://divascancook.com/giant-chocolate-cookie-recipe-pizza/

Her rescipe was straight forward and easy to follow. The one modification I made was instead of placing dark chocolate chips into the pizza cookie I used brown M&M's minis. The M&Ms are just what I had on hand.

Step 2:

Make the rice krispie treats. Again I followed another recipes here, right off the rice krispie box. Here is a link to how to make rice krispe treats http://www.kraftrecipes.com/recipes/marshmallow-rice-krispies-treats-56923.aspx.

Step 3:

Mold the rice krispie treats. I folded a piece of wax paper into a cone and used that as a mold for the rice krispie treats. A pint glass helped hold everything. I used about a third of the rice krispie treats I made. Below are pictures of this.

Step 4:

Cover the cone in melted chocolate. Melt the rest of the semi-sweet chocolate chips. I did this in the microwave, heating up the chocolate for 10 seconds at a time. Using a spoon or a fork drip chocolate stripes over the pizza cookie, giving the pizza a striped look.

Attach the rice krispie treat cone to the pizza cookie with a spoonful of melted chocolate on the bottom of the cone. Place in the middle of the pizza cookie. With the rest of the melted chocolate, cover the cone. I started by pouring most of the chocolate over the top and smoothing it out with a spoon. That's it.

Here is the final product! Happy Halloween.
